Looking for an opportunity to make an impact?
Responsible for developing and designing electronic, electro-mechanical and mechanical equipment. Duties may include developing basic data and making preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposals.
Are you ready for your next challenge?
Join Leidos as a Mechanical Designer and help shape the next generation of defense technologies that protect America and its allies. You’ll work on a wide range of cutting-edge systems—from launchers and missiles to radars and satellites—designing the structures, components, assemblies, and specialized test equipment that make these missions possible. Using advanced 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools and the Leidos Enterprise Product Lifecycle Management (EPLM) Windchill system, you’ll transform innovative ideas into engineered reality.
THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving and precision design. While you’ll take ownership of your daily design tasks, you’ll also benefit from mentorship and collaboration with experienced engineers and designers who will support your professional growth along the way.
WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)
- Typically requires BS and 4 – 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 – 6 years of prior relevant experience or:
- Associate’s degree in Design/Drafting with 6-10 years of relevant experience, or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Proficient in CAD software and able to learn new tools and techniques.
- Familiar with government and industry standards.
- Familiar with ASME Y14 standards.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to work onsite at a Huntsville, AL, Leidos facility.
- Flexible and capable of switching between tasks and toolsets.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3D modeling experience with SolidWorks and Creo.
- 2D drawing experience using SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, and Visio.
- Experience with Windchill PLM.
- Background in mechanical design.
- Experience creating technical data packages to MIL-STD-31000 requirements.
- Hands-on experience in mechanical assemblies.
If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling. At Leidos, we outthink, outbuild, and outpace the status quo — because the mission demands it. We're not hiring followers. We're recruiting the ones who disrupt, provoke, and refuse to fail. Step 10 is ancient history. We're already at step 30 — and moving faster than anyone else dares.
