Leidos Defense is seeking a Mechanical Cable Designer to help create the critical "nervous system" that connects the advanced hardware we develop to protect America and its allies.
Primary Responsibilities
From launchers and missiles to radars and satellites, you will design the electrical power and signal cables, along with the hardware that connects, routes, and secures them. Using 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and the Leidos Enterprise Product Life Management (ELPM) Windchill system, you’ll bring these essential components to life. A working knowledge of government and industry-standard connectors and cable parts is key, and while you’ll work independently on daily tasks, you’ll have the guidance and support of senior designers to help you succeed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience, or Associate’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience or 6+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Proficient in CAD software and able to learn new tools and techniques.
- Familiar with government and industry standards.
- Ability to work onsite at a Leidos facility and independently with limited supervision.
- Basic understanding of cable design needs, routing considerations, and mechanical design principles.
- Flexible and capable of switching between tasks and toolsets.
- Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3D modeling experience with SolidWorks and Creo.
- 2D drawing experience using SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, and Visio.
- 3D routing experience in SolidWorks and Creo.
- Experience with Windchill PLM.
- Background in cable design and/or mechanical design.
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5 standards.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620D and the National Electric Code.
- Experience creating technical data packages to MIL-STD-31000 requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret cable wiring diagrams.
- Hands-on experience in mechanical and/or cable assembly.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
