Leidos’ Defense Systems is seeking a talented Continuous Improvement Engineer for its Hypersonics line of business. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions. The selected candidate will support the Common Hypersonic Glide Body program (CHGB). The CHGB is the Army’s #1 priority for strategic weapons capability for long-range precision fires and will counter and gain a lead on our adversaries' technological advances in this field, come join us in this exciting, cutting-edge field.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Analyze workflows to identify bottlenecks, waste, and inefficiencies that affect engineering work products.
  • Lead value stream mapping initiatives.
  • Develop and implement standardized work and visual management tools and systems.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators and operational dashboards.
  • Improve engineering throughput, document release cycle time, and labor efficiency.
  • Interface with multifunctional team to understand roadblocks impeding the engineering document release process.
  • Play a key role in engineering efforts to map and optimize processes.
  • Develop implementation plans for process improvement initiatives.
  • Present performance trends and provide recommendations to leadership.

Basic Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 4+ years of experience from an ABET accredited school.
  • Ability to work tasks with limited direction, as well as provide clarification and instruction to others.
  • Experience applying Lean, Six Sigma, or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience leading issue resolution in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the organization.
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Prior work in DoD Missile, Reentry Vehicle, or Hypersonics fields.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • Experience in AS9100 or aerospace quality systems.
  • Understanding of cost and schedule implications of typical engineering deliverables.
  • Experience with value stream mapping, SIPOC diagrams, Kaizen team formation, process discovery, or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) documentation.
  • Experience working rapidly changing development programs.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Familiarity with EVM and program performance metrics.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
