Leidos’Defense SystemsPersistent Surveillance Portfolio isseekinga highly experiencedChief Engineerto lead the technical execution of a large, multi-phase radar program with concurrent development, test, production, and sustainment activities. The Chief Engineer will serve as the technical authority across multiple product lines and configurations, ensuring design integrity, technical performance,and disciplined engineering execution. This role requires a systems-minded leader with the ability to balance near-term production needs with long-term technology advancement.

Primary Responsibilities. Using Bullet Format

  • Lead your technical teamto design a product that conforms to requirements, on schedule, within budget.
  • Manage scope creep.
  • Serve as the program’s technical lead for engineering execution, system performance, and compliance with requirements across multiple product lifecycle stages.
  • Communicate technical progress, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership and government stakeholders.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to subsystem leads, IPTs, and specialty engineering disciplines to ensure design maturity, integration, and risk mitigation.
  • Mentor and develop technical staff, fostering a culture of innovation, rigor, and collaboration across the engineering organization.

WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree inMechanical, Electrical, Systems, or AerospaceEngineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • 17 years or more of progressive engineering experienceor 15+years experiencewith Masters degree.
  • Experiencein alead or chief engineer roleon large DoD or aerospace program.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, multi-disciplinary engineering teams supportingconcurrent development, integration, test, and production.
  • Excellent technical judgment and ability to communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with formal design review processes (PDR/CDR), configuration management, and risk management practices.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama, AL, area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with radar, EO/IR, or other advanced sensing technologies.
  • Experience with mobile military primer movers (FMTV) and power generation (AMMPS)
  • Experience with government development testing

Pay Range:

Pay Range $154,050.00 - $278,475.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
