Overview

The Semester of Service Program is a non-paid program that provides students from a wide range of educational institutions with meaningful opportunities to explore federal service while completing their academic studies. Student Volunteers gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to mission-driven work that supports the Department of Energy's priorities.

Major Duties

The student volunteer will work with the Talent Team and Recruitment Division in the Office of the Chief Human Capital Officer to conduct labor market analysis and support the development of recruitment strategies for critical positions within the Department of Energy. As a HC Student Volunteer, you will: Conduct labor market analysis for Department of Energy positions. This includes research to inform position development, assessment strategy, and compensation considerations. Attend agency recruitment and human resources (HR) events to identify best practices for Department of Energy consideration. Research recruitment events and outreach activities for upcoming job postings. Utilize Microsoft Office skills to design, analyze and create documents and/or presentations to support early career programs.

Qualifications

Completion of HR post-secondary classes. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to conduct research on HR topics. Ability to communicate in writing.

Education

To qualify, you must be enrolled not less than half-time in an accredited trade school, technical or vocational institute, junior college, college, university, or other accredited educational institution. You also must be in good academic standing as defined by your institution. Attach a copy of your transcripts to your application package for verification.

Benefits

This is an unpaid volunteer experience. Student volunteers are not considered Federal employees for any purpose other than injury compensation and laws related to the Federal Tort Claims Act, and service is not creditable for leave accrual or other employee benefits.
